Common questions

Answers before you even ask

How do I arrange care?
Start with a phone call — (01947) 606187 for home care and day care, or (01947) 600779 for respite. We’ll arrange a free home assessment with our management team and build a care plan around you. There’s no obligation at any stage.
What areas do you cover?
We provide home care across Whitby and the surrounding villages and countryside. If you’re not sure whether we reach you, just ask — the answer is usually yes.
Are you regulated?
Yes. We’re registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC), who visit regularly and carry out a full assessment and review of our services against national standards. You can read our reports on the CQC website.
Can you provide care at short notice?
We’ll always do our best. Shetland House also offers emergency respite stays when family circumstances change suddenly.
How long can someone stay at Shetland House?
Respite stays run for short periods of up to six weeks, and we also welcome full-time permanent residents. Many families use respite first to see if Shetland House feels like home.
Do you support people living with dementia?
Yes — Shetland House is a residential and dementia care facility, and our home care team supports many clients living with dementia in their own homes.
